About seven years ago I was diagnosed with an eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa. This disease affects the retina of the eye, causing it to swell and break down over time. Eventually a person with this disease is expected to view the world through tiny pinholes due to the loss of peripheral vision. A few years ago, I was introduced to a healthier lifestyle that has taken me on an incredible journey. I decided to share some of the things I have learned and some fantastic recipes as well.
Over the years, I have learned that what we eat truly affects our overall health in many ways. I have also learned that so much of our food today is not meeting the nutrient needs of our bodies so supplementation is critical to add to an already healthy diet. I personally have found that wheat and sugar affect the inflammation of my eyes tremendously. And as it turns out, most people with inflammation of any kind can reduce their inflammation significantly by eliminating wheat and sugar (and possibly other foods as well).
As for supplementation, I have chosen to use Shaklee vitamins wherever possible. I am a huge skeptic so when I heard about Shaklee I did some research and, to my knowledge, I found that the company does more testing on their vitamins than any other vitamin company. They run actual clinical trials and post the results. Additionally, many of the Olympians take their vitamins. I'll share on the Shaklee page what supplements I take and why and how you can try them, etc.
I decided to start this blog as a one stop shop for all of my recipes as well as a place to share my Shaklee experience.
I hope you enjoy!

Loving the blog! Thanks for suggesting so many yummy, healthy recipes! What vitamins did you take while you were pregnant?
ReplyDeleteThanks Brandi! Sorry for the late reply! I took Shaklee's multivitamin called Vita-Lea, B-Complex, and Omega Guard (Fish oil). I compared to all of the prenatal vitamin samples I had and a few others and none could compare! Then I got it approved by the mid-wife as well. Shaklee's b-complex is the best there is out there and is coated in folic acid.
